Tomias gave her a wary look before reaching out and liftign an apple, citting cross-legged beside the fire. He chewed in silence for a while before looking her way, the light from the fire exaggerating shadows across his face. The light from the sun seemed to be rapidly disappearing.
"Ye can sit closer to the fire, ye know." he mumbled before taking another bite, the warmth from the fire steadily growing as embers began to form at the base, the dancing flames claiming more of the logs.

"I'm fine, I don't really like fires." Rhapsody said. It wasn't that she didn't like them, she was scared of them. They way they shined so warm and inviting, then hurt and burned you when you got to close. She knew that this fire was as tame as a candle but still she was scared of it reaching out and burning her if some freak wind came. Remembering what had happened eariler that day she made sure she didn't hum or do anything musical.

Tomias shrugged at her, quite happy to sit beside the fire himself. He flung the core of the apple carelessly over his shoulder before lazily backwards and resting his weight on his elbows.
He figured she didn't want to hear stories about him defeating great monsters - she seemed to become scared when he mentioned anything about them, or even the word evil.
Tomias, however, did want to talk about something. He hated silence as much as his aunt Lavella.
"Soo.." he began in an attempt to get her to say something other than answering his questions.

((I can just picture the scene, complete with chirping crickets! XD))
Rhapsody looked up and Lachlen. "Yes?" She said wondering why he had stopped mid sentence.

Tomias let out a heavy sigh at her short answer before quickly thinking up a reply, "Oh aye... I travelled all the way from me 'ome, y'see. Ah've seen all the lands - the great moun'ains and the vas' oceans, y'see." he proclaimed in an almost dreamy voice, staring up through the branches.
(( Hehehe... *gets out the cross* ))

"I've seen cities underwater, and temples up high on mountain peaks." Rhapsody added trying to show that she too had seen alot of the world.
((It's not working! Okay now I'll try and get rid of it *pulls out machine gun* Let's see Writer's Block survive this! Shoots in random directions* Come out and fight Writer's Block!))

"Um, not really. You see-" Then she remembered that the men had said she must never talk about the Kurash's secret city on pain of death. "It's nothing, it must have just been a dream I had that felt real!"
((Yeah! Take that Writer's Block! Jared's coming! In your face!))

Tomias blinked slightly, "Oh, right..." he mumbled, losing the will to try and keep the concentration going. He slowly slipped into a trance-like state, almost dozing, although his eyes were kept open.
Behind them there was a snap of a twig followed by a sharp movement of something. The branches flicked out behind the creature as it flitted away, soon disappearing into the darkness that the forest gave.

Rhapsody sighed in relief when Lachlen didn't press the matter. Instead he seemed to fall asleep, but his eyes were open. Then she heard a noise. Rhapsody jumped up and backed away from where she heard the sound. She bent down and grabbed a stick from the pile of firewood and held it before her then continued to edge away from the sound. If it was some kind of bear or wolf she could try to out run it to the town, there would be too many people there for it to risk chaseing her. But what about Lachlan? "Sir Lachlan? Somethings here."

"Bah... It's probably nothing..." Tomias murmured sleepily, having completely ignored the rustling sounds behind them.
There was a long gap of silence before there came the soft padding of light feet. There was another gap of silence before it was broken by a heavy trotting beat of hooves, snapping twigs as they went. A branch flicked back behind a large dark figure, the leaves rustling noisily.
A large centaur burst over a low and dead-looking bush, landing with a resounding thud on the hard floor of the forest before jumping up again and forward in great bounding steps. It wielded a bow and arrow and, as Tomias jumped and cried out, the arrow twanged out from the powerful bow and straight into his shoulder.

"Sir Lachlen!" Rhapsody cried seeing the arrow. "You brute! You killed him, you killed him, you killed him!" Rhapsody started to beat at the figure with her stick till it broke then used her fists. See was also trying not to cry. Why did all the people around her have to die? It wasn't fair!

Jared jumped back from the stick, his front egs spread wide apart as he tried to figure out what was happening. He danced away from the girl, heavy hooves thudding against the floor and throwing up leaves and dirt.
Tomias, meanwhile, let out a groan and promplty blacked out - more in fear of the great centaur he was faced with.
