"I plan on teaching Tomalin how to use her natural gift of magic, goddess. Do not mistake my intent, I have no reason to keep her from her musical paths. As I have told her, she needn't walk one path without walking the other." Arcanus made no change in his expression, it was as mask-like as it had been before. His sneer had vanished, his angered tones had simmered. Once again the young archmage had returned to his natural, calm self. Now why would I have snapped at Xyla? She isn't worth my time and efforts... It makes little sense. Shrugging off his self-questioning, Arcanus shifted his gaze from the goddess to his twin. Saturn had indeed grown strong, Arcanus could tell. As much as he didn't enjoy admitting it, there was some envy between them, at least for Arcanus. Of what, however, he wasn't quite sure. Again his gazed shifted, now to the goddess. Truly something any normal mortal man could be tempted by, Xyla's figure was slender and, to say the very least, exotically attractive. However, Arcanus was no normal mortal. He challenged the gods when he could, however silently he did. His thoughts must have been projected many times and he knew they'd kept a close watch on his works. It was his wish, as many seemed to speculate, that Arcanus wished to attain something close to immortality, if not that then simply to become a god himself! No, this was no secret, not to the great Gilean at least, and Arcanus was sure of that!

"And why would you want her to be your apprentice in the first place?" the goddess questioned with the look of mild interest. Oh, meddling meddling. Another of her areas of expertise, so to speak. Just having to butt in on everything. She could have been doing something meaningful and important in the God's Realms right now. Alas, this wasn't Xyla's way. She had decided long ago that Tomi could have whatever she wanted... as long as it was what Xyla wanted as well. Just another toy to keep her interested, to keep her learning what made mortals tick.

"She has shown an interest in magic. Not only something as simple as that, otherwise I'd have simply ended our meeting before it occurred. She has a talent within her, a talent for magic as all elves tend to have. To nurture two key talents and use them simultaneously would mean for her to be great!" As selfless as it sounded, Arcanus kept his other, lesser reason hidden within his protected mind. He would know if Xyla tried to pry, he would feel her pushing at his mental defenses. Until then, he could do nothing but tell his half-truths. As it was, he had yet to lie about anything. "Now, why would it concern you so greatly goddess? If anything I am amplifying your precious toy's abilities by taking her on as my apprentice. There is much she could learn from the Art. And I'm sure even you can agree with that!"

Xyla regarded his words once again. There was something else here. Something suspicious. She couldn't quite place what it was, of course, but then again, she had all the time in the world. "As long as she's happy," she said untruthfully. After all, she doubted that the elven girl would do antyhing but smile, in that aspect like the goddess herself.
She was getting tired of this repetitive dodging. It was obviously not getting anywhere, and Arcanus was suspicious of her motives. She would have to come back again when it was less obvious. But now it was known. Xyla was watching. Life for mortals in Moonshire was about to get very interesting.
"Well," she grinned wildly. "This has been a lovely chat, but I believe I'm growing tired." The diety gave a large and obviously fake yawn. Her suspicions would have to be saved for later. This talk was getting absolutely no where.
She nodded to each of the room's occupants, "Goodbye, Saturn, Arcanus. I'll be watching Tomi's progress, of course. Keeping a close eye on you two." She winked, and time began again. All that was left in the room of Xyla was a fragrant plume of pink bubbles.[/color]

"Something tells me that Gilean will find out. And when he does, Xyla won't be getting too far without her older brother finding his way into her business." Arcanus chuckled lightly and began to swirl his finger in that clockwise motion again. It wasn't long before his chair lifted and spun about, allowing him to face the proper direction once more. That entire ordeal had been one, rather large, rude encounter. "If I could prevent the gods from seeing my whereabouts, I would. I find it quite tiresome how many of try to jump into affairs that shouldn't concern them. Oh well. Tell me my brother, where were we before the rude interruption?" Arcanus, who was feeling particularly lazy, lifted himself from his seat and made for a glass cabinet which stood off in one of the room's shaded corners. Opening the cabinet door, Arcanus removed two tall, crystal goblets and a bottle of red wine. "Care for some? You must be thirsty after your journey from... where was it you were last again? We have been rather out of contact with one another for the past many years."

"I must refuse your offer of wine dear brother, I must consult with you in a pressing matter first..."
Saturn grinned malevolently as he had just deceived a god. Of course Saturn knew of the Patheon, and of almost every God, and Xyla was in his knowledge, but he cared little for it all. Standing and leaning closer to Arcanus, he placed a hand oon Arcanus' desk and spoke without caution or emotion,
"I wish to challenge the gods."

Arcanus, who had already set the bottle of wine and the glass goblets down on his desk, found it hard to move hearing his brother's statement. His initial expression was that of concern, was his brother mad!? Then again, that madness also burned within Arcanus. No, he saw how serious his brother was. Now his eyes narrowed as he sat down. His gaze making an attempt to penetrate his brother's orange eyes. He wanted to see if it was simple madness or if it was truly a desire, a goal to fulfill. It was, and a well wished one at that. "You wish to challenge the gods? All of them my brother?" Calmly, Arcanus poured himself some wine. He observed the colour, took in the fragrance. It soothed him enough to think clearly again. Those annoying pink bubbles that Xyla had left behind were indeed wretched enough to obscure his senses before. Now that they were gone, he was back to his normal self. "And so you come to me Saturn. What do you seek to accomplish here? Do you wish for me to travel with you? Please, sit down and explain."

Saturn grinned and sat back, complying to Arcanus' request. Saturn found his fingers runnign across the hilt of his blade behind him again, a habit he had that shown he was true to himself and his ability. Saturn looked to Arcanus, and then spoke,
"In my journeys I've seen it all, poverty, wealth.... joy, sorrow, everything.
My blade, I cannot even recount how I came to it, or how it came to be, but I can tell you this.
I will cut down anyone who stands in my way, even a God..."
Saturn was sititng his his relaxed state again, his voice calm and collective as he told Arcanus what was needed, and began to explain why he was here,
"I will not speak of why exactly I have come to you, because it should be apparent...
Birds of a feather fly together...."

The night was silent as two dark shapes appeared in a scattering of feathers. One had robes and wings that glowed brightly. The other had hair and eyes that shone silver in the moonlight. The two figures murmured a quiet spell; in moments their wings disappeared. In the stillness the white-robed one spoke.
"Why did you do that?"
The black-robed one said nothing, but hung his head. With a sigh the other placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Alright, I won't ask. Just try to keep the Glamour on. You should have known by now how much humans hate us. Come on, let's find a place to stay."
The two walked out from the alleyway behind the inn Arcanus and Saturn resided. The black-robed one cast a wary eye on the building.
"I sense power in there."
"Do you want to stay here?"the elder asked."Either way, it's an inn."
The younger nodded, and the two entered without another word.

The twins were given room and food. Smiling the elder thanked the innkeeper and closed the door, setting down the pitcher of hot water as he sat down. He undid the Glamour, and white wings appeared on his back. His brother looked at him, then followed suit.
"Laiy, are you sure it's safe to do this here? We might get caught."
"We'll just put on a quick one if anyone comes."
"What by the people who hold that power?"
The elder white-winged one, Laiy, sighed.
"Miki, if they do intend to hurt us, we should have all our energy to defend ourselves . . . and undoing the Glamour is one way."
The younger black-clad one, Miki, glanced warily at the wall opposite of them as he sipped his water.
"The power . . . it's right next door. I don't like the feeling it gives me. It's too . . . unnerving."
"Best to ignore it. If they notice, then let it be."
A silence settled between them. Then Miki spoke again.
"I think they already sense us."
