"Well... if you're sure," Tomalin said carefully, turning a little bit pink. She only took a little bit of food- the girl never ate much- and finished quickly. She smiled, thanking Arcanus. After all, it was only polite. Especially after such a great meal.
She noted all of the little spells Arcanus had done. It was so second-nature to him. A part of her still nagged, as it always did, every hour, every minute, fighting between both her music and her own tiny little magicks, her bitof sorcery.
"This is all really a lot," she commented. "It must be wonderful to be so..." Tomi floundered for the word. "Eminent?" she finally tried.

Arcanus smiled as Tomalin seemed to think his existence to be wonderful. It was, in fact, but it was also quite tiresome at times. After all, when a mage cast a spell, it sapped them of strength. Minor cantrips and spells he had been using since he graduated from the academy were second nature to him now. Granted, they too eventually took their toll on him, but not for ages at a time. The more powerful spells, on the other hand, were quick to sap Arcanus of his strengths. "Life is good, yes. But at times I wonder if perhaps I go too far in my studies. I am, after all, only seventeen years of age! I spent my childhood practicing magic and growing into what I am now, and for what? Power? Glory? No..." Arcanus raised his eyes to meet with Tomalin's. He was sure she could understand this. She was an elf! Her magic came from within whereas he was required to memorize spells and use them during the day only to be exhausted in the end. Magic was taxing on a mage's mind and body, but it was always worth it. Taking a sip from his goblet of wine, Arcanus relaxed himself enough to lose his aggravations. He smiled cheerfully and observed how Tomalin had blushed somewhat. Perhaps his gracious offers had been too much? "Tell me Tomalin, how do you feel about magic?"

"I love magic! After all, how could an elf not like it? It's an inborn trait... but..." she got quieter, less excited "It's just... sometimes it's hard to decide..."
She didn't know how to explain. After all, how do you explain when you can't choose between you magic and your music? How do you explain what it's like to be divided between two dreams? It was impossible. "I want to perform... but I want to use my sorcery, too. Even that's too much, let alone going to school and learning wizardry, magecraft, university magicks."
"It must be easier," she continued, "not to have to choose." She shifted in her seat. Perhaps he could help her... but no. Even her own father could only tell her "Follow your heart," and then go buy her a new instrument and a pretty little magic game.

"Tomalin, there used to be a time where I wished I could perform great spectacles like you can now. I saw that I could with magic. Care to see a demonstration?" Arcanus had finished his dinner and was quite willing to give this demonstration of his. All he needed was an approval and he'd be up and on display. It was known that powerful illusionists could conjure figures of vast terror or even put such a display of calm and awe as to enchant their audience completely. Arcanus was neither sort of illusionist, nor was he an illusionist. The Archmage knew how to cast all spells with a certain flare. He could make the most deadly of spells (save the necromatically based ones) into the m ore beautiful displays anyone has seen. Alright, so that was thinking a bit too highly, but he was pretty close to that level of amazement last time he displayed his power.

Tomalin's eyes carried a curious glint once again. "That would be wonderful. I'd love to see. And please, just call me Tomi." She cringed a little when she added, "Only my older sisters and my mother call me Tomalin." And that's when they call me silly for being a performer and not a proper married and shipped-off housewife like all of them.
She loved to see magic almost as much as she loved performing. Truth be told, of the few mages she'd met, she'd scared some of them off, asking if they could tell her about this or that or what sort of ways she might connect her own sorcery with her other talents, and finally her father had had to apologize for her curiousity. One of them had even helped her figure out how to add magic behind her voice, to make it more entrancing.

Arcanus smiled widely as he lifted himself from his seat and went to stand more or less out of the way. He seemed to prefer the space rather than the confines of his chair. None the less, out came his hands and up shot his eyes. he was rested, fed and now ready to show some of his talent. "I'm sure you know a few prestidigitations Toma..Tomi? Here's one I'm sure you'd enjoy." Arcanus moved his fingers, seeming to stretch and recoil them. It was rather amusing at first, and then when his face became serious, his eyes closed, the power really came forth. His hands stood rigid as he murmured a few words in the spidery language of magic. Before anything could be said, his hands clapped loudly together. Upon pulling them apart, dozens of colourful birds flew about all seemingly appearing from nowhere at all! True magic, not just simple amateur magician things. With a snap of his fingers, the birds fluttered thrice about Tomalin only to fly straight into Arcanus' robes, vanishing upon contact. Arcanus took a polite and customary bow after this, knowing this to have been quite the performance. He was sure Tomalin was impressed by this show of tricks, just as he had been her performance.

She stared in awe, fascinated, as the feathered animals soared around her. This was wonerful magic, better than anything she'd seen before.
"It was wonderful!" Tomi gasped, smiling widely. The elf picked up a feather that had been dropped by one of the birds when it was flying around her head. Its green-blue hues matched those of her eyes. "It really was amazing," she breathed, staring at the feather.
"It must've taken an awful lot of power to do something like that!"
It was an awesome show of magic, uncommon around these parts.

"Yes, it took a good while for me to learn that one perfectly. Its actually a variation of a certain spell I know. None the less, I have more tricks should you like to see them? Perhaps, if given the time, I can teach a few of them to you?" Arcanus despite his researches and work involved did have enough spare time to enjoy himself, like now and earlier. It didn't matter to him if he took on an apprentice and taught Tomalin how to use her magic. As it was, he was rather interesting in how elves used their innate magic anyways, so it made sense for him to take her as an apprentice.

"Really? You'd do that?" Tomalin was excited, surely. What young elf wouldn't be?
It was an honor to learn how to use the right fork from a mage with that kind of power, let alone actual magic. Her ocean eyes shone with enthusiasm. She loved learning new spells, though she usually had to figure them out herself, and could only do very simple ones, those that every elf knew and a few others.
She was almost falling out of her seat with thrill, the happy little elf.

Arcanus took quick note of Tomalin's excitement. She was indeed someone who adored magic, even for an elf! If anything, his small performance reveled to her than magic, on its own, can be used to entertain others. Smiling, Arcanus took his seat again. he absently took hold of his goblet of wine and drank a small amount, cleansing his palate with the sweet taste he adored. Keeping the smile, Arcanus answered Tomalin as he gently placed the goblet back on the table. "If that's what you'd really like, then I haven't a problem with apprenticing you."

Tomalin's heart was fighting with itself. What about your music?! it yelled at her, Now what are you getting yourself into? But she still wanted to be great, she still wanted to know magic.
"What about... my music?" she asked slowly. Could she do both? Was there any chance?
If there was, she was willing to take it. But no... she was sure there wasn't. Mages studied hard, there couldn't possibly be the time, she couldn't devote the energy. What was Tomi going to do?

"Ah, I was wondering if you were worried about that. You have the sorcerous abilities, innately tuned to magic. Unlike myself, you don't have to commit to long hours of study, just long hours of practice." Arcanus' hood had absently been pulled over his head, leaving his face to be seen, but likewise still shaded somewhat. He shook it off irritably, disliking the warmth it gave indoors when it was already too warm. "I know a small amount of musical performance myself, nothing magical, just a hobby. The flute has always been there with me actually." It was comical, at times, to think of powerful men playing the least powerful roles. In this case, a powerful archmage playing the soft-playing flute. Still, it did earn him a bit of respect. It meant he had some musical knowledge and talent in him. "Now, I'm not much of a musician, but I can help you in whichever way I can. You will have enough time to practice both, to keep both your arts close to your heart Tomi. But your worries aside, we are young and have a full life ahead of us to learn, laugh and play."

Carefully, the dirty Tomias picked his way through the people - careful meaning he chose the people he knocked shoulders with. One almost lost their balance as Tomias stormed past, leaving behind him a wake of people looking annoyed and rubbing their shoulders.
A small smile crept across the lips of Tomias Lachlan, his shoulders feeling just fine - especially the shoulder with the armour plating on. That piece of armour was a godsend in crowded places. All he had to do was drop his left shoulder and plough on through. If people sawy him in time they could get out of the way in time - most of them didn't get the time to see him coming however.
Eventually he came to a building. A building that would have a bed for him to sleep in. As well as a bath. He needed a bath. Except he had no money. Ah well, no matter. I'm sure a few tales of my greatness will bring them round to my cause of defeating evil. A man just can't defend people from evil on an empty stomach and in dirty clothes. Not to mention being tired. he thought to himself before kicking the door open and stepping on in.

"You mean... I can do both?!" Tomi exclaimed. Everyone else had told her it was impossible. She'd never asked a mage before, but here Arcanus was telling her that it truly was possible.
"Then I would! I would, I would!" She was so excited. This had to be... the best day of her life! Now she could pursue both of her loves, magic and music.
"I always wanted to..." she added quietly. "But everyone told me it was impossible. I would give anything to do both. Thank you."
Her eyes shone with happiness. All thoughts of her sister were banished from her mind.

"It won't be easy Tomal...Tomi. Not at all easy. You'll have to devote yourself to both practices, of course. The easiest suggestion is to set times where you practice one and then practice the other afterwords. A routine is always good for aspiring youths like ourselves." That's right, Arcanus was young, the youngest Archmage in his conclave! It was a thought that never really crossed his mind among the regular people, only with the elderly and bitter mages of the conclaves. They had worked there entire lives for what Arcanus obtained in a few short years. Of course, to Arcanus, these years had been long as grueling. As it was, he could always remember the nights where he was so sapped of energy he'd rather have faced death (and openly admitted to such later) just to escape the pain in his chest, the aching that occurred when drawing in his breath. Arcanus banished these thoughts from his mind, looking upon Tomalin, her excited expression, her ever youthful eyes. Arcanus could feel himself starting to become fond of the elf. He made a note to be careful of those emotions for the time being.
