Terasha leaned against the side of the ship. There wasn't a whole lot of any work to do right now, and so she sat there. The good thing about this combined with the open water was the fact that she'd gotten a few chances to practice her much neglected water sorcery.
The bad thing was that she tended to bump into Dre more and more frequently. Well, not neccessarily bad. She loved being anywhere near him. But she hated how heart heart did backflips, her cheeks turned red, and odd happy tingles raced down her spine. It took all her self control to hide it, and it was starting to get on her nerves. She really needed to stop doing this. After all, she was being silly. Dre was her friend. She wasn't going to ruin that.
With a sigh, she sheilded her hand with her eyes, looking to the southwest. The hawk-winged lady kept her eyes open for signs of the dreaded Black Waters. Something was making her anxious, though she wasn't quite sure what. It was that sort of feeling of dread people get when something big is about to happen

"Hello Terasha! Isn't it nice being in the open waters!" River said coming up to the hawk girl. The minute the boat had taken off River had lost all clumsyness she had on land and had not even needed to wait a second to get her land legs. For the first few days it had been ironic how the only one who could keep her balance was the one who had been constantly tripping on land. She was bluer than ever being on the open seas with the ground below her constantly moving. She hadn't gotten land sick too badly but it was always nice to get away fropm all that stillness. "I hope this trip doesn't end for a long time! I'd forgotten just how good it is to be out where the ocean is really wild!"

Terasha laughed. She still wasn't used to boats. After all, besides this one, the only other she'd ever been on was the one that had taken her from the Northern Continent to Tyraan with Dre and Javier. "I'm still getting use to the not flat thing. Though I shouldn't have to much trouble. After all, I fly, don't I?"
She glanced again at the place where the Black Waters would be any time now. "Do you think we're getting any closer?" Once they'd left the Pirate's Islands the entire trip had been nothing but water for miles and miles around. Anxious as she was to get to their destination, she also wanted to escape the perfect monotony.

"Oh we're over half way, we just passes Fire Canyon, didn't you see it? Wait! Father told me this would happen! You can't see anything below the surface can you? I can see perfectly though and to you what I guess looks like, a desert I think is how some Overworlder's described it, is to me a country. To me this is like flying over my father's lands. I've been to the Black Waters once so I'll be sure to tell you when we get close!"

"Thanks, River. You're right. To me this looks like a nice, big stretch of blue liquid with no end. It's quite boring to me, but you seem excited as a kid with a cookie." At least someone was excited about something. All she could feel was that black pit of dread. It still felt like something awful was going to happen.

"Well maybe you should try to see it from under the surface! I don't know if you could get back up onto the ship though, since your feathers are useless wet. Oh! Dre could carry you back on board! He has scaled wings and is is really strong! So how about we go for a swim and I can show you how the sea really looks?!" River was so incredibly happy she didn't feel it, that prickling that something was coming. In her joy and exuberance it was passed over.

Terasha had to stop herself once again from turning pink. Why did she have to do that? Better come up with an excuse. Quick.
She let out a shaky laugh, "I'm sure he's probably doing something more important... you'd have to get him to come up here.
As much as Terasha would love to see something other than an endless stretch of blue, see what River's world was like, she didn't want all those unneeded feelings rising up to try and take her over. The naiad was right about her wings. They wouldn't help her get back on the boat if they were soaked. Holding her breath wouldn't be a probem even as much as that was. She could use her bit of water sorcery to ward it from her face in a sort of air bubble. That had been a neccessity to figure out soon after they were on the ship. After all, if she went over board, drowning wasn't going to be an option.

"Okay! I'll go find him! I'm sure he'll come! He seems to really like you though he never says it." River rushed off as easily as one of the Overworlders might on a smooth paved road. She wasn't sure where Dre was but she was determined to find him!
Dre sat below deck helping to prepare lunch. He also had a special treat for Terasha which had been quite hard to get but he got it anyway. It was one of the first thing's Terasha had eaten on a ship and almost as soon as she had gotten it down sea sickness made her puke it all up right on Javier who had given it to her. His friend hadn't minded too much and Dre had been on the floor laughing till both Terasha and Javier kicked him soundly. After that he had gotten up and left, though he had still been laughing. He hoped Terasha would remember it and maybe bring a smile to her face, but knowing her she might just throw him overboard. "Dre! DRE!!!" The naiad rushed through the hall shouting though it was such a small ship she really didn't have to. As she moved on Dre wondered if he should tell her where he was. Nah, first get Terasha this little treat, then if I am still alive go and ask what she wanted. So Dre snuck out of the gallery with the covered tray and quietly snuck up to the deck. There Terasha was, wind blowing her hair. Gods she was so beutiful- wait! She was just his friend! If he ever tried to act on those feelings she would leave him for sure. And that was something he would not be able to handle. So he tried to get himself under control as he approached her. "Here you go, special treat just for you."
((I'll leave it up to you what is on the tray.))

((Since she's currently on a strict diet of ginger snaps and graham crackers, plus an orange or two here and there, I'll have to come up with something other than...))
She puzzled over what River said. The naiad must've just been being silly as always. She didn't see it. They were just friends. Then she heard Dre's voice from near her, and turned to be face to face with a tray of food. "Oh, yes, you're a funny funny guy, you know that?" She shook her head with a smile, not only to emphasize the perfect sarcasm, but to try and shake her heart back down where it was supposed to be and out of her ears. "River's looking for you," she commented, eyeing the corn bread with suspicion. Yes, memories of him falling over himself with laughter came quickly. Since then she'd resolved that the only thing anyone was ever going to get her to eat on another boat ride would be graham crackers. That changed when she heard ginger worked wonders on sea sickness and she needed to eat an orange or two, and the list expanded by just a bit. Meat was the only other thing that didn't make her insides try and escape out the wrong end.

Luke smiled as he watched the two. It was obvious what was happening, but he didn't dare voice it. Running a whetstone down his curved sword, a smile tugged once more at his lips as it glinted in the sun. A swim would be nice for a change. Yes, his feathers would get wet, but they were not useless; they were sleek and oily, perfect for gliding through the water with.

She peered around Dre to see Luke smiling at them. Was she that painfully obvious? Terasha wondered. "And what are you laughing at?" she asked irritably. Something else irked her now. If he did notice it, and it wasn't something else, did everyone else notice it? Was everyone sitting around talking about how silly she looked whenever Dre came around, trying to hide the fact that she l- no. She wasn't going to say it. She wasn't going to admit it. It would just be harder that way. But still, she wondered. If everyone else knew.... did Dre himself know?

"Just trying to make you feel better. And I'll go see her in a minute." Dre said then turned to see who Terasha was looking at. "Hello there Luke, how is the churning ocean treating you?" Dre said friendly, though teasing as well. Everyone had been sea sick the first few days except the naiad and only a few were still sick. Like that little girl who Terrace had brought, she spent her time sitting in the women's rooms. Well at least he thought she was sea sick, whenever he saw her try to sneak unoticed into gallery to get her rations she didn't eat like she was sick, just trying to get out of there as fast as possible.

"Dre Takeme, you have a fine way of making people feel better. Laugh a bit, yes, feel better, no." At this she pulled a ginger snap out of her pocket and bit a chunk out of it just to prove a point. They were supposed to stop her stomach from churning on the water, but it was far from that. It barely helped her, probably part of the reason she was thin as a rail, keeping aside that she had been conditioned to a very small appetite from the time spent on her own as a child. She put her hands on her hips, swinging to one side in a mocking and very feminine gesture. Time as a Kurash noble had given her these girlish traits, not yet fully erased by time on the streets.

"Dre!There you are! Now I don't have to drag you out here!" River said soming out from the passage to below deck. She ran over all smiles. "Dre will you help Terasha out? I was hoping we could go swimming but then she wouldn't be able to get back on the boat, so I was thinking you could carry her back onto the boat when we're done. Will you please?"
"Sure, I might even take a dip myself." Dre pulled off his shirt and left it carefully hanging where it would not get too wet unless a sudden rainstorm came. "Ladies first though." He said with a bow, but the real reason was he didn't want to jump in without knowing if the water was frigid.
"Thank you Dre! Thank you!" River said then getting on the rail she leped and elegantly dived into the water without making more then a few ripples.

((I just realized something funny. Hehe. That should make this very interesting.))
"Guess I'd better get down there, then," Terasha slipped off her black leather vest, down to the rest of her normal outfit of choice. White tank, because of the heat, rather than a white longsleeved cutoff shirt, with almost too short shorts. Good for quick movement and not hindering to someone of her occupation. She flew down slose to the water before easing in, shivering a bit at the difference between this wet and the warmer air above. She whispered few words and stuck her head underneath.
Good. It worked. Now she had a decent air supply to be down there for a bit, thanks to training in water sorcery, and she could speak freely without having to worry about losing air. Another plus side to this was that she didn't have to take her black curls down, which were almost always tied on top of her head. The fact that people had always said they looked better down was actually a reason for this. The fact that Blaire had said it, even more. In any case, her hair was up, and she wanted it to stay that way. The water seemed to bring life to the blue in her almost black eyes.
