Deep in the bowels of the land between the Three Sisters Volcanoes lies a massive chamber that few people have seen. At the lowest point in their stronghold lies a magnificent feat of magic and a testament to not only the power of the phoenixes, but the finesse with which they wield this power. The map itself is a real time representation of the lands that the Arbiters of Balance have under their jurisdiction. It is three dimensional with rolling hills and high mountains and deep valleys all represented on its constantly changing surface.
The astonishing thing about the Phoenix map is that it is composed entirely of lava, fire, and smoldering earth. Despite this fact however, it still manages to look like a brilliant display of the world, living and breathing rather than a lifeless burning crater. It is nearly two hundred yards in diameter and shows minute details in armies, farmlands, and cities that only trained eyes can pick out.
Mortals who have set eyes upon this wonder count themselves blessed. For truly to have seen one's entire world laid out in front of them is a wondrous and magnificent experience!

Flare tapped her fingers angrily on the wall she leaned against, staring intensly at the map. It only burned before her eyes- a map can show nothing of what's to come next. It can show you nothing of what your next move should be. Only the person could determine that. The golden phoenix had never liked that about the map. She simple watched the war unfurl and unravel itself. Her firey wings beat intensely. Truly, the phoenix wasn't even sure what she was worried about. She was so full of firey anger at everything sometimes, she just had to let it out. After all, she couldn't destroy the precious map. That would be a terrible crime. So she simply threw a little flame at a wall, and it hissed as it hit stone, something flame couldn't defeat. She beat her wings a few more times impatiently.

"The Taevess knights... Sometimes I think that the golden dragons, the ones who are the supposed champions of justice are the ones most focused on making our jobs difficult." No matter how many times we redirect them they seem to come back with twice the force and double the intent. Whoever has started commanding them has begun to calculate Phoenix Intervention as a variable of war as have the Ebony Fists. The Ruby dragons still haven't learned that brute force and wanton slaughter don't make them a bigger threat." Illidion grinned as he watched the massive force of the Taevess knights split into three smaller forces. "Sometimes I wish I could just hop in and declare martial law on the northern continent to stop them from this constant war."

"I know," Flare agreed angrily. "If only they'd just shut up and crawl back into the holes they came out of, perhaps that would be easier. Just like when they had their seperate little quarrels inside themselves. They're going to tear each other apart. Though it will be quite funny." She laughed at the thought of the continent destroying itself from the inside out. If only she didn't have to intervene. Helping or hurting, no force could come out on top. It was thier job to make sure the balance was kept between those ignorant dragons.

"The war wouldn't even bother me if it didn't mean such a large threat to balance." Illidion floated above the map and observed the minuscule representations of humans, dragons, and other conscripted races clash on the battlefield. Watched as one by one the flames of life flickered out. "Amusing. No matter who wins this battle the losses will be catastrophic on every side. None of them know how futile it is and yet they fight. One life and they throw it away in war... curious.

"They aren't content until the prove who's right." And you can be the same way, she scolded herself. "They will keep on destroying each other until one of them 'proves' they're the one who does best." It was really true that no one was in the right. All of them were fighting over something quite silly. Lore was the only nation logical enough to know that leaving the balance alone was best. The others were all determined it should be tipped in their favor. So silly. So fickle. They weren't just happy enough to keep what they had, they must have what everyone else owned, too.

"The most ridiculous part of it is that three hundred years from now the balance will be just as it was before and nobody will remember the war save for in the old stories. And you and I shall still be the Arbiters of that balance. The worst part is that during these infuriating wars the phoenixes are universally despised by all. While we were once the benevolent aiders of peace and prosperity now we are interfering busybodies. I remember when I was welcome freely in the court of the Gold Dragons and allowed to speak with the Ruby Dragons. Now both of them will attack me on sight for fear of their lives."

"Leave it to the ignorant beasts not to recognize someone so important," she scoffed. "If slaughtering all of them would help, I'd advocate it, but I know it wouldn't. It would wreck balance just as badly as someone winning. A'Dense wouldn't be the same for years. We just have to keep trying to get through to them." She beat her wings again, this time in thought. How on A'Dense would Phoenixes get through to the creatures who no longer even respected them?

"It will take time but they will understand eventually. Once they have exausted their resources after the war they will be more receptive to our suggestions. Until then we just have to make sure nobody wins." Illidion smiled and beckoned Flare to him. "Reinforcements for the ruby knights are arriving at the battle. It is a massive force and because of the importance of this area if these marauders are victorious they will raze several key golden fists villiages. But they have made a dire mistake. They need to cross through a narrow pass. Illidion held out his hand. We can be there in a moment and cause a quake that will waylay them by blocking the pass. He smiled at her. "Shall we?"
Fin. (for now)

"Of course," Flare answered simply, ready to get out and get some fresh air. She followed him, like she would follow him to the ends fo A'Dense and back.
(Likewise.)

Shirora lit silently at the mouth of the tunnel that led to her home. Taking one last look at the sea of green, she turned and walked in.
The tunnel was large, and sloped downwards; Shirora could hear the murmuring rumbles of the fiery blood of the earth. As she neared the end of it, a ruddy glow could be seen.
"I'll expect Lord Illidion and Flare will either be here watching the Map or out playing with the armies," she muttered quietly to herself.
The tunnel ended aruptly, but the path continued on for a bit more before ending as a craggy spear of rock. She walked to the end and looked in on the map.
"Well, well, I was right," she said softly, a thin smile playing across her lips.
She had spotted the two figure that were Lord Illidion and Flare who were moving towards a patch of Humans, probably reinforcements for another army.
"I wonder . . . if Lord Illidion wants me to be there . . ."

Flare's figure dissappeared from the map, herself flying away. She'd been told to leave, after starting quite the fire around the army, and with a frown she had.
Quick was phoenix flight, and the golden lady had quickly made it back to her home. She came up behind her fellow firey one, with a "Boo."
She laughed. Flare couldn't help but have to get along with Shirora. After all, they were the only two gold phoenixes around.

Shirora smiled and turned around to face her fellow Gold.
"Hello, Flare. Back already?" she asked, slightly amused. "And I thought you realized you couldn't scare me some time ago."

Oh, come now. Doesn't mean I can't try, does it?" She decided not to answer the part about being back. It wasn't as if she wanted to be here. She wanted to be out there doing something. In here, the only thing to do right now was talk to Shirora. Not that is was a bad thing. It just wsn't what Flare wanted to do.
