Shirora knew she'd hit a sore spot and didn't delve into the returning part of her question. Either way, she smiled and sat down, her legs dangling over the edge of the outcrop. She patted the space beside her, inviting Flare to sit there.
"Of course you can try, Flare. I just doubt your success," she replied.

Flare brushed back her hair and sat, one arm over a raised knee. "So what have you been doing? I haven't seen you lately."
Even though she had been cooped up at the Sisters, while Shirora usually stayed nearby, she never really talked to her fellow gold.

She looked down at the fiery map, her eyes locking onto the forest she had been in just minutes ago.
"Oh, I've been here and there . . . nothing much has been happening. And you?"

"Till just now I've been cooped up in these old halls." She made a face. Most knew that Flare didn't like to stay in the same place for long, and needed a bit of the action of battle every once in a while.

Shirora laughed softly and got up.
"Well, while Lord Illidion is away . . . why don't you come out with me? We could take a leisurely walk or fly around the area if you want."

"Sounds like fun." Better than being stuck inside the walls of their firey fortress. Being there too much already was starting to take its toll on the phoenix. Flare rose as well, and followed.

Unfurling her wings, Shirora flew out and waited for Flare. Together they flew around the Three Sisters. Smiling, she turned to speak to Flare.
"Close your eyes," she said. "I have a secret. And a surprise."

"Eh?" Flare was confused, but whatever. This could turn out to be insteresting. She shut her eyelids. "Alright, what's this big surprise, then?"

"You'll see, though I'm not sure if you'll like it or not," Shirora replied, taking Flare's hand and leading the way.
She lit down on a sheltered outcrop, near the peak of the tallest Sister. Turning Flare to face the world, she let go and stepped back.
"This is my favourite place to sit," she said. "Open your eyes."

"I didn't know this was here!" Flare exclaimed. She'd explored the sisters so many times, but never seen this place. From here was a view of so much. Out past the sisters, the sea, and even more than that. It was spectacular.

Shirora watched Flare's reaction and smiled, looking out at the spread of land below her. Her gaze went distant again, staring out without seeing.
"It's amazing what one can miss, staying near home. There's another one . . . just like this one . . . on the other side of the volcano," she commented softly. "Though the view isn't as nice as this one. What do you think of it?"

"It really, truly is amazing. Especially when you can't get out much." It was such a better view than crowded stone walls, more open than a mountain pass. The swamps to the south could be easily seen, good for those who couldn't fly as they could, since they weren't well navigated by land. One could see, too, where it faded into the plains, as well as the vast northern oceans to their west.

"I'm glad you like it," Shirora replied, smiling. "One day . . . when this war is finally over . . . I'll explore the whole land of A'Dense . . . and maybe get some souvenieurs while I'm at it . . ."

"As long as it's over, I'm sure it would be fun. Though I'd have to back out on that one. I'm not one for exploring." She didn't want to be stuck at the sisters, but she didn't want to be an estranged traveller either. She wanted to do the best she could by the rest of the phoenixes. The rather young queen was still gaining their respect.

Shirora nodded.
"I can understand. You're needed here. But I'm not . . ." she stared off into the distance again. "Maybe I'll go visit the Lonely Mountain . . ."
